*gnome

And, I'm running xubuntu on this computer right now. It's pretty cool, but once you're used to Windows, you start to miss some of the shortcuts and what-not that Windows has. But all around, xubuntu is a good OS.

ubuntu has really dumbed it down and made it easy for like, anyone to use. Their motto is "Linux for human beings"

Slackware is my favourite, Knoppix is a live CD favourite of mine because its based around debain. and i agree with lochacker the kubuntu is the best out of the different variations of Ubuntu

I think Xubuntu is better Departure, as I said it can run both KDE & Gnome.

But I'd prefer SuSe, Fedora or Mandrake.

In those 3 I like SuSe's GUI but Fedora is my good little RedHat system :)

For guys who want an OS with wings and multi-functional I'd say aim for Xubuntu, much better than Ubuntu or Edubuntu.

Well, I don't think Edubuntu was really marketed toward personal use, y'know?

But really, its all what you like and are comfortable with. Try a lot out and use the one you like best...

Debian is a free operating system (OS) for your computer. An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your computer run. Debian uses the Linux kernel (the core of an operating system), but most of the basic OS tools come from the GNU project; hence the name GNU/Linux.

Free download then burn to cd and boot it, It will allow you to try it instead of just installing it. :D

Debian is gay.
