Paltalk programs Windows 7 Fix

Postby locohacker » Mon Feb 15, 2010 4:31 pm

aigh I figure out why programs aren't working on windows 7, is cause paltalk seems to be running in xp mode by default in windows 7. so to fix this do this
Go to the programs menu -> ya know ya click on the windows logo on the bottom right the start up thing -> Now click on All Programs look for paltalk -> Now once ya got paltalk right click it and choose properties -> There click on Compatibility Tab -> there uncheck the box the says run Run this program in compatibility mode for -> then click on Apply and Ok, Start paltalk again and try using the programs they should work:)

One thing you probably will have to do the same thing every time you want to use the paltalk programs, i think thas something paltalk needs to fix or we have to find something in registry to see why it checks the compatibility mode back on

thanks for ya help but i downloaded 9.9 so that would mean that i would have to uninstall 9.9 and reinstall 9.8 just to try it to see if it would work it would be different if i wouldn't have to go with keeping that box unchecked but anyway thanks for what you did but i think that it would be too much trouble i'll wait till you an auto greeter for 9.9

:) i found a better solution, like the old saying says if you cant beat them - join then. so instead of unchecking the compatibility mode of paltalk, do this right click on the paltalk program such as ,the greeter, funtext ect... and run them in Xp sp3 mode lol that works great  since paltalk will always enable the mode in paltalk this is a much better solution and it wokrs perfect :swift:

This might have something to do with Vista and Win7 having restrictions on what applications are allowed to do to other applications. Another solution is for the user to run the application that wants to communicate with Paltalk in administrator mode. The user can right click and run as admin or set administrator in compatibility. The following quote from Vista security might apply:

User Interface Privilege Isolation (UIPI) and integrity

User Interface Privilege Isolation (UIPI) implements restrictions in the windows subsystem that prevents lower-privilege applications from sending window messages or installing hooks in higher-privilege processes. Higher-privilege applications are permitted to send window messages to lower-privilege processes. The restrictions are implemented in the SendMessage and related window message functions. Not all window messages that are sent from a lower-privilege process to a higher-privilege process are blocked. Generally, “read” type messages, for example WM_GETTEXT, can be sent from a lower-privilege to a higher-privilege window. However, write type messages, such as WM_SETTEXT, are blocked.

usenet7 Yeps I try that it works when you do it in the actual program not paltalk :) paltalk works for like a few seconds then it just stops.
That's why is best to run all my programs under xp mode instead ): they work like that with no problem :swift:
