Some Paltalk Questions

Postby daveh1 » Wed Jan 30, 2008 10:55 am

Hello,

I hate to be such a noob here, but I am a software engineer in my day job who is an enthusiastic Paltalk user at night. I am really interested in writing some Paltalk addons for my own use and the user of my friends, but there are some things I have some trepidations about.

- I see some nice addons but most of these lack source code, which I find troubling.

- There doesn't seem to be any kind of API reference, even one discovered using something like a debugger.

I really, really want to do this. Pal's official policy seems to be that they don't have an API, which is just ridiculous. If somebody can point me in the right direction, it would be great, even if it's just that I have to use a Windows API trapper or something and give me pointers where to look. I'm fluent in C++, Java, and a couple of other languages, and can even do VB or Delphi (or a knockoff).

Also, if anybody can think of a useful utility and wants to toss out suggestions for apps, that's cool too. Thanks in advance.

Please don't post the same topic in different forums thank you.

And now for your questions.

Many programs has their source code published as well as code examples, all you have to do is to search the forums, and if you don't find something you want to know about than ask for it.

There is no API, therefor you'll have to do things by inspecting behavior. Most (if not all) of the programs just use Windows API to send and retrive data from paltalk.
Tools you can use are: ResHacker Winspector and PEBrowse Professional, those are the utilities I use (as I rather not pay for anything  .)

actually, paltalk does have an API with big list of methods ( I can list it for those who likes to have an idea) that would be very funny to play with once you get it working. I tried importing the .tlb files and creating the instance of the COM object, which worked at the set up, but failed while calling any of the API methods. I got pissed and left it and didn't mess with it again :D
