Summary
“You don’t deserve this room.”
My stepmother stood in the doorway, my schoolbag dangling from her hand.
I was eight years old. I had just come home from school to find the lock on my bedroom door had been changed.
“This is Jason’s room now.” She dropped the bag at my feet. “You’re going to live with your grandma.”
I looked at my father.
He was staring at the floor, refusing to meet my eyes.
“Dad…”
“Listen to your mother.”
That night, I dragged my suitcase to my grandma’s front door.
