Summary
It was Family Day at the kindergarten. My wife, Carol, claimed she had urgent business at the office and told me that Lily and I should skip it, too.
My heart ached seeing the disappointment wash over my daughter’s small face. I couldn’t stand it. I decided to take her myself.
We had barely stepped through the gates when I saw her. Carol. She was holding a little boy’s hand with one hand, and with the other, she was holding the hand of Leo, her childhood friend.
They looked like a real family of three, laughing and chatting, a perfect picture of domestic bliss.
