Summary
On Grandma’s deathbed, Peter finally agreed to drive me home. She was clinging to life, desperate to meet the man I’d loved for seven years.
Midway, Violet called, sobbing she was alone at the hospital. Peter fell silent, then spun the car around. “Explain to Grandma for me,” he said. “Violet saved my life once. I can’t leave her.”
I stood roadside, watching his taillights fade. This wasn’t new. He’d ditched my birthday for her gala dress, ignored my fever for her therapy. Now, Grandma’s final wish still lost to Violet.
