Summary
I was on a business trip when I spontaneously bought a scratch-off lottery ticket at a client event. I hit the second-tier prize: ten thousand dollars.
The next day, back at the office, my boss demanded I hand over the winnings.
"You were on company time, conducting company business. Every cent of your travel and lodging was reimbursed by the firm. That ten thousand dollars is, by definition, company property!"
I was startled, but I pulled up the transaction record for the scratch-off.
