Blacklisted Before The Blizzard

Summary

The air already had that brittle, metallic taste of early winter by the time I hauled my rig up the mountain. As an owner-operator, I made my living running twenty-ton loads of premium anthracite heating coal to the off-grid rural communities nestled in the deep country.

I never expected to get taken for everything I had in Oakhaven.

They had trenched a massive, axle-breaking sinkhole right at the edge of the township line. The moment my front tires hit the disguised dirt, the rig lurched sickeningly. The trailer fishtailed, groaned against the hitch, and rolled.
