Summary
Three days after my miscarriage, I returned to the office despite the pain. Eric had insisted I rest, promising to oversee our new multimillion-dollar contract himself. Still, a gnawing unease wouldn't leave me.
I pushed open my office door. Eric's cousin, Kayla—fresh from dropping out of vocational school—was lounging in my executive chair, using my ten-thousand-dollar tea set to mix powdered milk tea. She was lecturing my department manager.
"This project is mine now. You employees better behave," she declared.
