Summary
The heat index hit one hundred and four degrees on a Tuesday when the office air conditioning died.
As the purchasing coordinator for the floor, I assumed the rooftop compressor had simply choked on the humid summer air. I put in an urgent service ticket, and the technician arrived within the hour, wrenched on the wall-mounted unit, wiped his brow, and told me we were good to go.
Two minutes after the lobby elevator doors closed behind him, the vents went completely dead.
Thinking the five-year-old system had finally surrendered to old age, I marched into our branch manager’s office…
