Summary
The charity-case kid in our department had a chronic inability to process human speech.
Right before our senior graduation showcase, I caught the stage lift glitching. The hydraulic platform shuddered with an ominous, grinding rattle, and I told him, point-blank, over and over, that every single mechanical lift cue was officially scrapped.
He looked me in the eye, nodding like an eager puppy. Then, mid-performance, he slammed the switch anyway.
I fell ten feet through open air. The landing shattered my lower spine.
