Dead on My Acceptance Day

Summary

When I came home, my father was slamming the door on his way out, fresh off another violent rage.

I ran to my mother, sobbing, throwing my arms around her bloodied shoulders, only to be met with a stinging slap across my face.

"I endure all of this because of you! If you had just gotten straight A's, your father wouldn't have blamed me for spoiling you!"

After that day, their screaming matches only grew more frequent, more violent.

I didn't dare stop studying. Not even for a second.
