Summary
The third time my childhood friend brought up that poor girl, I laughed and teased him.
"You really did have a thing for her back then, didn't you?" I said.
His expression turned serious. He wanted to correct me.
"Cleo, don't make jokes like that," he said earnestly. "She was different from us. She was self-respecting and never looked down on anyone who worked hard."
I pouted, feeling slighted.
Eventually, they both ended up at Julliard, the top music school in the country.
I smashed my violin, moved across the ocean, and changed my major to finance.
