Her Resized Ring

Summary

At our private engagement dinner, my mother pulled out a worn velvet photo album and proposed a game: Recreate the Memory.

When it was my turn, I drew a photograph from three years ago.

In the picture, a girl in a floor-length ivory silk gown was smiling up at Marcus Cole as he slipped a diamond solitaire onto her left ring finger.

A chorus of polite laughter and encouraging murmurs rippled across the dining table. Everyone urged me to slip into the matching ivory dress hanging in the anteroom and stand in that exact spot beneath the chandelier.
