Summary
The news broadcast warned that a Category 4 hurricane was set to make landfall on the coast by six o’clock this evening.
By four, my coworkers were already packing up their desks, anxious to beat the storm. Public transit had already been suspended, and those with cars were generously offering rides to those without.
When one of them paused by my cubicle to ask if I needed a lift, I gave him a grateful smile and declined. "Thanks, man, but I'm good. My girlfriend’s picking me up."
He grinned, clapping my shoulder. "Must be nice having someone looking out for you."
