Summary
On the drive up to the mountain retreat, I habitually reached for the front passenger door.
Wright, busy loading our luggage into the trunk, naturally slid into the backseat right next to Carly.
They spent the entire drive whispering about high school pranks and catching up on mutual friends. Every now and then, I tried to chime in from the front, but Wright would only offer a distracted, one-word murmur before instantly picking back up wherever Carly had left off.
It went on like that until our driver glanced in the rearview mirror and broke the silence.
