Summary
I woke up in a hospital, staring at a handsome stranger.
He was rattling on about something, a stream of words that made no sense.
My mind was a fog.
It wasn't until he said we'd have to postpone getting the license that my brain finally clicked back online.
"What license?" I asked, my voice raspy.
"The marriage license, Nora. Did you hit your head that hard?"
He reached out to touch my forehead, the gesture unnervingly natural.
Was he kidding me?
I was a girl fresh out of high school, basking in the glory of my college acceptance letters. I wasn't even old enough to legally marry.
