Summary
Caroline walked in wearing five-inch stilettos while I was in the middle of signing a merger agreement.
She didn’t knock. That was her style. As the heads of two massive family conglomerates, we knew the geography of each other’s offices too well—her chair faced the floor-to-ceiling windows; mine was angled forty-five degrees, offering a perfect view of the glass curtain wall of her building across the street. We had grown up together, so close I could trace the arch of her eyebrows with my eyes closed.
