Summary
The shove woke me at two a.m. Wesley’s voice was a frantic hiss: “Get up! Pack a bag. We have to go, now.”
I was still swimming in the haze of sleep, barely grasping what was happening, but he was already stuffing random items into a duffel bag, his hands shaking.
“What is it?” I mumbled, my voice thick.
“The neighbors across the hall,” he gasped, pulling me toward the door. “Something happened. I heard a huge commotion. Sirens—they’re everywhere.”
We fled into the night, stumbling into the nearest chain hotel, The Hampton Court Inn.
