Summary
Ten years. That was the length of the marathon Galen and I had been running. For as long as I could remember, my family had been dropping hints, then outright begging, to finally meet the man I’d built my life around.
But Galen always had an excuse. A high-profile case, a critical deposition, a late-night strategy meeting. Nine family dinners. Nine times he had promised to show, and nine times his chair had remained empty.
The tenth time was different. My mother was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer. Her doctor told us we were looking at weeks, maybe days.
