Summary
In our social circle, my husband, Adrian, was the textbook definition of a devoted partner. He was the man other husbands were compared to, always pulling out my chair, anticipating my needs before I even realized them myself.
But no one knew the silent boundary lines he drew around that devotion.
I wanted to go swimming, but Adrian wouldn't allow it.
"You're too fragile, Iris," he’d say, brushing a stray hair from my forehead. "And you’ve always been afraid of the water."
