The afternoon before our wedding, Morgan’s lifelong darling, Elwin, backed his coupe out of the driveway and deliberately rolled his rear tire over my left foot.
I heard the sickening crunch of bone before the pain even caught up.
Before I could draw breath to scream, Morgan leaned over the passenger door, already waving a hand to brush it away. "It’s fine, Jonah, don't make a scene. Just swing by the drugstore and pick up some arnica gel. You'll walk it off."
She stepped out, circling the hood with an affectionate, exasperated chuckle. "Get out of the driver's seat, you idiot.
