Summary
The night Nana started fading, Seraphina finally promised to come home.
Nana was clinging to her last threads of life, her lungs rattling with every breath, desperate to see the woman I’d loved for seven years one last time. We were halfway there, the San Francisco skyline flickering in the rearview mirror, when Seraphina’s phone buzzed. It was Christian.
He was sobbing. I could hear his voice cracking through the Bluetooth: "Sera, I’m at the clinic alone. I’m scared. I can’t breathe."
