Summary
Scarlett Bennett’s greatest regret was falling in love with her uncle who also is her guardian, Damien Graves.
At ten, the tall, comforting man had held her close, promising to protect her after her parents’ death.
At fifteen, when bullies tormented her, Damien forced them to grovel for forgiveness.
At eighteen, she donated part of her liver to save his life—then stole a kiss. He awoke with stunned alarm, pushing her away with chilling distance.
The final betrayal came when Damien’s beloved Serena needed a kidney. "I’ll grant any wish," he vowed, if Scarlett would donate hers. She refused.
