Summary
I grew up in a household with just me and my younger brother, but my mom always claimed she wasn’t the type to favor boys over girls.
Then, she needed surgery. She pulled me aside and whispered, "Don't tell your brother. He’s never been close to me since he was little. If he knows I need surgery, he’ll just complain."
I was about to tear up at her thoughtfulness when suddenly, a stream of floating text—like live comments on a video stream—scrolled across my vision.
[Poor heroine. She still thinks her mom actually cares about her. The old lady just doesn’t want her precious son to worry.]
