My Dad Was Paying a Fortune

Summary

I'd known since I was little that my mother was Pierce Callahan's kept woman. Unfortunately, she was also the poorest kept woman in our circle.

Other girls had closets full of dresses.

Meanwhile, I barely owned anything besides my elementary and high school uniforms.

When I was little, I fell in love with a $100 dress and asked my mother to see if my father would buy it for me.

Her face fell immediately as she rebuked me, "He's already doing us a favor by keeping us. Do you really think you're a Callahan heiress?"

I never asked for anything ever again.
