Summary
On the morning we were supposed to go to the courthouse, my fiancée—the CEO of the company we built together—intercepted me. She needed to marry her childhood friend first, to help him get his green card.
She said it so casually, as if she were rescheduling a lunch meeting. As compensation, she told me, he’d bought me a car. When I stood there, silent, the condescension on her face was a mask she didn’t even bother to wear.
