Summary
The night before our engagement party, I found the adoption papers in Nolan Rhys’s jacket pocket.
The name listed under “Child to be Adopted” was the son of his late squadron mate. Nolan, my fiancé, was going to be the child’s legal father.
I didn’t choose the high road. I didn't pretend to be the magnanimous woman, throwing the documents in his face demanding an explanation.
Instead, I waited. Nolan spent the entire night on the rooftop, the scent of expensive cigar smoke thick on the air, battling his conscience. He walked into the living room at dawn, his eyes red-rimmed.
