Summary
I was born with Congenital Insensitivity to Pain (CIP). My adopted little brother, Kian, has a severe form of Osteogenesis Imperfecta—the 'brittle bone' disease.
So, to keep him safe, my sister, Hannah, always used me to set boundaries and enforce rules for Kian.
I did protest, but Hannah always pleaded with me, a look of deep, exhausted helplessness on her face:
“Nick, Kian is our adopted brother, and punishing him directly will only bring judgment and gossip down on us.”
