On the morning Garrett dropped me off for my first day at Hayes Group, he offered what he thought was practical reassurance.
"You’ve been living in comfort for five years, Natalie," he said, keeping one hand casually on the steering wheel of his Porsche. "It’s completely normal if you struggle at first. If anything happens, call me. And if people give you a hard time, just tell them you’re my wife. No one will dare cross you."
I nodded quietly.
I never made that call. Not when my marketing proposal was rejected and rewritten five times in a row, not when I worked past three in the morning…
