Summary
Will was the finest ship-lanternsmith in Mariner's Bay. There wasn't a beacon or light he couldn't mend.
In our harbor town, they all said a fisherman’s daughter like me had struck gold. Marry the keeper of the light, they said, and your life will never know darkness.
According to our old coastal traditions, the groom must keep a vigil over the bridal lantern for three nights before the wedding.
If the flame dies, the marriage is over.
He held my hand and said, "Nothing in this world could pull me away from you."
And I believed him.
