Summary
On her deathbed in my previous life, my wife gathered our children around her and made one final, breathless demand: when she was gone, she wanted to be buried beside her first love.
The children obeyed without hesitation. In fact, they barred me from her funeral altogether.
They stood at the chapel gates, their expressions hardened with a venom I had never thought possible in my own flesh and blood, telling me that I was the reason their mother had died of a broken heart. According to them, my very existence had suffocated her pursuit of true love.
