Summary
My girlfriend, Helena, was a professional voice actress. To protect her vocal cords, she had a strict personal rule: she never repeated a single sentence. Not to anyone.
When I proposed to her on a rain-slicked balcony in Manhattan, I begged her to say "yes" just one more time so I could commit it to memory.
She turned away, her voice cool and crisp. "The words don't matter, Jonah. Only the intention does."
To compromise, I started carrying a small digital voice recorder everywhere I went.
