Summary
Lola was known throughout the architectural community for her uncompromising perfectionism.
Yet, three years into our marriage, our loft remained an uninhabitable draft.
The kitchen had no exterior windows, trapping grease and stifling heat. The master bedroom sat perpetually cast in a northern shadow, frigid and damp through the winter months.
I was never one to start domestic wars over floorboards and drywall, but over the years, I had asked—begged, even—more times than I cared to count.
"The kitchen feels like a bunker, Lola. Can’t we knock out a transom or add a skylight?"
