Summary
My mother was the rightful heiress.
Thirty years ago, her own parents conspired with her fiancé to steal her academic records, handing the life she had earned over to an adopted impostor.
Armed with my mother’s stolen credentials, the impostor climbed the social ladder to become a celebrated prima ballerina, lecturing on national television about dreams and hard work.
My mother, meanwhile, was cast out and abandoned in the rugged hills of Appalachia under the pretense of being too unrefined. She died in a dilapidated trailer, never receiving a single word of apology.
