Summary
It began with an apple pie I baked, which sent Serena's daughter to the ER.
My husband, Alistair Vance, summoned us to the hospital. In the hallway, his men forced my head toward the pie, now a mess on the floor. "Eat this filth," he commanded, "and I might forgive you."
I refused.
Calmly, Alistair then fed a shrimp to our three-year-old daughter, Annie, who is deathly allergic. She eagerly swallowed it.
Her reaction was immediate and violent—welts, swelling, convulsions. Anaphylactic shock. I begged him to call a doctor, but he let her collapse to the floor in disgust.
