Summary
Freshman year had barely started when my roommate—a girl here on a full need-based hardship stipend—asked to borrow my laptop for a group project.
Within an hour, she posted a picture of it on her feed:
"Eighteen, and I bought this high-spec beast in full with my own hustle."
Baffled, I commented beneath the post: "Why are you showing off my laptop?"
She burst into tears, claiming I looked down on low-income students.
Our other roommates instantly turned on me, calling me cruel and elitist.
Even our academic advisor told me to be the bigger person and apologize.
