Summary
On the day we moved into our new house, I made sure to reserve the ground-floor master bedroom with the wheelchair ramp for my father, whose legs were failing him. But the movers only told me after they arrived that the ground floor had already been taken by Lauren's former father-in-law, Mr. Gable.
My father was relegated to the fourth-floor guest room in a building with no elevator.
Clutching his cane, he had to climb the stairs step by painful step, stopping to gasp for air at every landing. I called Lauren immediately.
