Summary
The call came from a cop.
My husband, he told me, had been caught in a vice raid.
I was numb.
But it wasn't until I got to the precinct, until I saw the face of the woman sobbing in Ethan’s arms—a face contorted into a mask of perfect, pear-blossom sorrow—that the numbness curdled into something else.
A profound, weary sense of pointlessness.
I walked right up to him. Ethan instinctively shielded the woman, his mouth already forming an explanation.
I slapped him. Hard.
“Ethan,” I said, my voice dangerously quiet.
“You’re disgusting.”
