Summary
Austin knelt on the hardwood floor of my apartment, his hands cradling the polished mahogany box like a sacred relic. With practiced reverence, he unlatched the brass filigree clasp.
"Nora, sweetheart," he murmured, his hazel eyes wide and swimming with that manufactured devotion I used to mistake for worship. "Sing 'Silver Lining' for me today. Just one pass."
Silver Lining.
Of course. It was always that song.
In my past life, that was the very first melody he had asked me to feed into the box.
