Summary
This year, as the leading neurosurgical authority in the country, I received a request for a fly-in surgery in another state.
Twenty years ago, I had been in this very operating room.
My mother suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, and the lead surgeon missed by half a centimeter.
My mother died, and it was my first love, Oliver Sterling, who comforted me and helped me move on.
Only later did I discover that the lead surgeon was his father, the hospital’s renowned Chief of Neurosurgery, but the one actually holding the scalpel was Oliver, a medical intern.
