Summary
The nineteenth time I asked Victor for a divorce, Patrick didn’t try to stop me.
Every time before, he had intervened with frantic desperation. He would pace my living room for hours, take time off work, and even march into Victor’s corner office to broker an uneasy peace between us.
This time, Patrick moved with a quiet, clinical efficiency. He called the attorneys, drafted the marital dissolution agreement, and ran the legal errands himself.
When it came time to sign, the eerie silence between us became too heavy to bear.
