It was our wedding anniversary, and Jude finally had the time to take me to Kyoto to have the ceremony we had missed.
But right before we boarded, he swiped his digital pass off his screen and spun around, already walking back toward the exit.
"Miranda has a toothache," he said, his voice tight with an urgency that belonged in an emergency room, not an airport terminal. "We’ll have to go next time."
