Summary
When the boss’s wife called for the ninety-ninth time, she didn't ask what time he would be home.
She only said one sentence: "Please tell Joe he needs to come home today."
My hand on the mouse froze.
For the first twenty-six calls, her question was always, "What time will Mr. West be home tonight?"
Back then, I always had a ready excuse for him.
The brand ambassador, Miss Avery, had a sudden stomachache, and he had to drive her to the ER.
The client, Ms. Albright, had one too many drinks, so he was escorting her back to her hotel.
