Summary
Bennett was a workaholic. Or at least, that was the narrative I’d lived by for seven years. In the economy of our relationship, his career was the gold standard, and I was the currency he only spent when he had a surplus.
Ten minutes before the opening credits of the movie, my phone buzzed.
"The project hit a snag, Sienna. Something with the zoning permits," Bennett’s voice was smooth, polished, and weary in that way that usually made me feel guilty for wanting his time. "I already called Vicky. She’s on her way to meet you."
