Summary

I was in the middle of the microsurgery lab, guiding my residents through a complex vascular anastomosis drill, when the emergency call came through.

"Is this Dr. Sloane Preston?"

The man’s voice on the other end was trembling, his breaths coming in short, panicked gasps. "The youngest neurosurgeon in the country? The only one to successfully complete a basilar artery bypass on her own?"

"My son was in a car crash. His skull base is shattered, the artery is torn. Mercy General says you’re the only one who even has a chance of saving him!"
