Summary

On the third day after our daughter was born, my husband, Ryan, said he was running downstairs to grab some groceries and get a breath of fresh air.

I lay in bed, my C-section incision throbbing with a dull, relentless ache.

I waited for three hours. Ryan never came back.

I dialed his number.

"Hey, where are you?"

"Babe, listen, I need to tell you something. Don't be mad."

His voice was muffled by a lot of background noise.

"My parents are getting older, and they’ve never really been on a real vacation. I actually have some time off right now, so I’m taking them on a trip."
