Summary
Mother died of cancer. Father fell into a deep depression and followed her soon after. Alone in the funeral parlor surrounded by white flowers, I called my husband, desperate to hear his voice.
Instead, his words cut through the receiver like ice. "Is depression genetic in your family? If you are sick, go see a shrink. Do not drag other people down with you like your parents did."
In the background, I heard his secretary, Beth, whine softly. "Mr. Sterling... my stomach hurts."
