Summary
Just because my sister, Maeve, spoke a single sentence to Flora’s lover, my own daughter accused her of stealing her gold bracelet. They had Maeve tied up and suspended from the rafters of the warehouse for three agonizing days and nights.
I groveled on the floor, begging my wife and child like a dog.
"I’m begging you, please, let her down. She won’t ever speak to Gale again, I swear..."
My daughter met my desperate pleas with a cruel, mocking smile.
"I’ll let her down, Dad. But she has to give my gold bracelet back first."
