Summary
This was the thirty-ninth time I had stepped in to handle one of Matt’s breakups.
This particular girl had claws. The moment the words left my mouth, she seized her cup and hurled scalding black coffee straight across the café table.
"Who do you think you are, putting on airs like the dutiful wife?" she hissed, chest heaving. "Just because you have a piece of paper? You honestly think running me off is going to make Matt love you again?"
The right side of my face burned with a sharp, blistering heat. I didn’t flinch. I didn’t raise my voice.
